Your John Hancock of the Web...Keep it Classy People

Many people are quick to drop big bucks on fancy cars, designer clothes and even luxury pens (why!?) in their quest to portray a certain image.

Influencing how people perceive you can be a lot cheaper than that, especially when you communicate online. [literally at your fingertips.]  Who ever thought that a seemingly insignificant email signature could have such a big impact on others?

The goal is to look professional, and as far as email signatures go, short and sweet is the way to be.

The wrong email signature can make you look sloppy, and send business contacts the wrong message. By not developing and strategizing your email signature, you can come off to others as disorganized, unprofessional or even immature. That is not the message you want to send if you invest in a $5,000 suit, flashy sportscar or Monte Blanc ballpoint.

Here are some tips to keep your email signature looking and feeling as fly as you are:

1) Stick to the basics-  name, company, position and contact info.

2) Don't include the following information:

• Your husband/wife's phone number

•  Your entire resume

• Your personal social media account information (Do you really want a potential client to see last weekend’s pictures you forgot to un-tag?).  If you feel the need to add social media into the mix, stick with your company’s social media pages.

If you insist on graphic accompaniment, keep it SMALL.  In this case, bigger is not better. 50x50 pixels.  And please, keep the animation to a minimum.  And by minimum, I mean absolutely none.

Keep in mind that having graphics might hinder your emails from getting read.  Some people have them blocked, others assume they are spam, and most do not want to download embedded images....even if they look cool.
